DBC is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6). The DBC has no interest in making its own monetary fortune. The DBC operates to support Pittsburgh area businesses to become powerful and profitable. By offering a safe, professional, and reliable platform for business professionals to refer business, the DBC makes Pittsburgh and the region a business juggernaut. The DBC's wealth is not measured by its balance sheet; the DBC measures its wealth by the health and financial well-being of its members.
DBC invites professionals from all industries, yet it protects its members by only allowing one professional from any one specific area of that industry. For example, the DBC welcomes lawyers from all areas of legal practice, yet it will only accept one person to represent any one specific area of legal practice (i.e. only one Patent Attorney can join the DBC.) This makes certain that members do not compete with one another for referrals.
The DBC built its reputation and success on trust. Members know they can trust one another and that trust is the foundational rock upon which the organization and each member can confidently refer business to any other member.
The DBC is not exclusive. Yet the DBC follows a fair and equitable vetting process that makes certain all members are true business professionals. All members must display a duty of good faith, fair dealing, and honorable business judgement with one another and in their personal lives.
